Carson Iceberg Wilderness Backpacking
August 9-13, 2015
Pinecrest, CA
We’re super excited to be heading up to the High Sierras again this year! The Carson Iceberg Wilderness is less known and less traveled than many other places in the High Sierras and is about a 5 hour drive from Marin County.
Iceberg Meadows is our starting point. We plan to hike in from there to a lovely camp alongside the Clark Fork of the Stanislaus River. This is a fairly easy hike, about a total of 3 miles in from Iceberg Meadows. Our camp is just up above a spectacular waterfall and stunning deep pool below. A short ways above the waterfall is a series of beautiful pools near our camp. The elevation here is approximately 7,000 or 7,500’ so it’s cold at night! You’ll need a good down sleeping bag for sure!
This is incredibly gorgeous country- tall cedars and pines, granite, clear, starry skies and the sound of the river rushing by. The water is definitely COLD, but absolutely refreshing and wonderful to be in! We’ll have plenty of time for relaxing and musing, dayhiking and relaxing by the water, exploring and stargazing. Time to slow down, unwind, rejuvenate and connect with friends.
Cost is $225 per person. You are responsible for your own food and your gear. We will provide cooking stoves, fuel and water filters. We’ll share gas and travel costs.
